Wolffia angusta, the Slender Watermeal, is an amazing aquatic plant species native to Australia. This is an incredibly rare plant which ties with some others in the Wolffia genus as the smallest known flowering plant in the world. Each plant grows between 0.3–0.8 mm long, with a width of 0.2–0.5 mm. With leaves that could fit on a pinhead, it's a great plant for providing a sense of scale, particularly in nano aquariums.

This is a floating plant that also breaks some other records - it is one of the fastest growing plants on earth, reproducing itself every day in ideal conditions. This plant doesn't even have roots and consists only of a single fused stem-leaf structure. It stays upright through the use of a deep 'keel', 1-2 times its length, in a similar way to a ship or iceberg.

Wolffia angusta is a very hardy plant, and is easy to grow in ponds and aquariums. It is also cold tolerant - surviving cold winters by hardening its cell walls, and sinking to the bottom in a turion state. When temperatures warm up again the Slender Watermeal reappears on the surface. It grows best in temperatures from 16-30°C.
