The classification of this plant, along with almost all other 'Echinodorus' grown in the aquarium hobby, has recently been revised - these plants now belong to the new 'Aquarius' genus.

Aquarius 'Red October', commonly known as Echinodorus Red October, is a stunning bright red Aquarius cultivar that makes for a bold and eye-catching addition to the aquarium. With wide, oval-shaped leaves, this medium-sized plant can grow to around 30cm in height, making it perfect for mid-ground placement in the aquarium.

Under high light, the leaves of the Echinodorus Red October develop a beautiful russet red colouration that contrasts nicely against the greens of other plants in the aquarium. The colouration intensifies towards the tips of the leaves and can be almost entirely red under optimal conditions. In lower light, the plant will display less intense colouration, with more green visible in the older leaves.

Echinodorus Red October is a moderately demanding plant that requires more care than some of the other Aquarius cultivars to thrive. A nutrient-rich substrate is recommended, and CO2 injection can also be beneficial for growth and colouration. Strong lighting is recommended, as without adequate lighting the leaves may become smaller and less intense in colouration, and the plant may not reach its full potential.
