The classification of this plant, along with almost all other 'Echinodorus' grown in the aquarium hobby, has recently been revised - these plants now belong to the new 'Aquarius' genus.

Aquarius grisebachii, commonly known as Echinodorus grisebachii or the Amazon Sword, is a classic and popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts. This plant grows in a typical rosette form with large, bright green leaves. Aquarius grisebachii is a relatively easy species to care for and can tolerate a range of water conditions, including low light. To achieve optimal growth and vibrant colouration, a nutrient-rich substrate is recommended.

The Amazon Sword is a great option for beginner aquarists as it is a hardy plant that can adapt to different environments. It is a great space filler and will spread its oval-shaped leaves out in a fan-like shape, creating a striking display. As the natural habitat for this species is the Amazon basin, it prefers warm water temperatures ranging from 22-28°C and a pH between 6.5 and 7.5.

This plant is an excellent choice for aquascaping because it can be used as a centerpiece or as a background plant. It is versatile and makes an impact in both large and small aquariums.

The Amazon Sword makes a great staple plant for a variety of aquascapes, with its beautiful large leaves providing a contrast to your red, orange and yellow plants in the aquarium.
