One important note to make is that this plant is often mistakenly sold as Persicaria sp. 'Sao Paulo'. The easiest way to tell them apart is that in its emersed form, Persicaria Kawagoeanum has dark chevron-shaped markings on the upper leaf surface, while Persicaria 'Sao Paulo' does not. Additionally in the submersed form, Persicaria sp. 'Kawagoeanum' has leaves that have wavy edges and point upwards rather than downwards. The stems also do not grow as strictly vertical and branch more often.
