Ranunculus inundatus, commonly known as the River Buttercup, is a rare and unique native Australian aquatic plant that can add an interesting look to your aquarium. This cold-tolerant species will spread across the substrate with runners, forming a beautiful carpet of finely divided, snowflake-like leaves. Unlike other aquatic plants, Ranunculus inundatus can grow fairly bushy without frequent pruning.

This plant has similar looks and requirements to Hydrocotyle species, growing much shorter and denser in high light conditions. It can also tolerate lower light but the petioles grow longer in these conditions and are best suited for the midground. This plant is also very cold-water tolerant and easy to grow in temperatures of 10 - 30°C, making it a great choice for ponds as well. It can even tolerate frost when grown emersed as a pond marginal. With proper care, Ranunculus inundatus can thrive in a variety of setups, adding a natural and unique touch to your aquatic landscape.

In the aquarium, to get the best look out of this plant, supplemental CO2 and ample fertilisation are highly recommended. A nutrient-rich substrate will also greatly increase the speed of carpeting growth. Ranunculus inundatus is an easy and low maintenance plant to grow, and can add a unique native touch to most types of aquarium or pond.
