Persicaria strigosa, the Broadleaf Persicaria, is an attractive native Australian species that will add an interesting touch to any aquarium. Its lime-green leaves with purple undersides and broad, arrow-like shape makes it stand out from other plant species in the aquarium. In high light conditions, its alternating leaves can turn a light orange colour, making this quite a colourful option for your aquascape.

Persicaria strigosa looks halfway between P. decipiens and P. praetermissa, having relatively broad, arrow shaped leaves. Its stems grow directly upwards, with minimal sprawling, making it easy to prune and maintain its shape. This plant looks best when it is grown under high lighting, but can still grow well in moderate light conditions. It is also quite tolerant of different water parameters and is cold tolerant, growing well in temperatures between 15-30°C. Underwater, this is a fairly demanding plant, with good water nutrients and CO2 supplementation highly recommended. Out of water it grows very easily, making it a great choice as a native marginal plant for ponds.

This plant can be used in a variety of ways in the aquarium, either as a background plant or as a midground plant to fully appreciate its range of colours. Its unique leaf shape also makes it a great addition to any aquascape, especially when paired with other plants of different colours and textures.
