The classification of this plant, along with almost all other 'Echinodorus' grown in the aquarium hobby, has recently been revised - these plants now belong to the new 'Aquarius' genus.

Once considered its own species, Aquarius 'Horemanii', is now known to be a form of the highly variable Aquarius uruguayensis. This is a bright red variety with long, narrow leaves that are strongly veined and slightly transparent. New leaves grow pink-red and fade to a darker red in moderate light. Under high light the whole plant will remain red while under lower light, the leaves will get greener with age, beginning with the leaf veins.

One of the great features of this plant is its ability to grow a tight rosette of upright-growing leaves. It is quite a unique Aquarius species, and often times more resembles an Aponogeton species than some of the other types of Aquarius. It can be a bushy plant, and can fill out the background of a tank nicely. Echinodorus Horemanii Red is a medium to large-sized plant and can grow up to 40 cm tall.

Like most Echinodorus plants, Aquarius uruguayensis varieties are relatively easy to care for. It prefers moderate to high lighting and a nutrient-rich substrate, but it can tolerate a wide range of water conditions. It's a fast grower, which means it can quickly fill out the tank, and it's also a great plant for providing oxygen to the aquarium.

Aquarius uruguayensis 'Horemanii Red' is a great plant that can add an interesting look to your aquarium with its vibrant red colouration, unique leaf structure, and versatile growth habit.
