Pogostemon sampsonii is an uncommon aquatic stem plant that provides aquascapers a compact-growing midground addition to their tanks. Formerly known as Limnophila cf. 'punctata’ and Pogostemon cf. 'pumilus', this species boasts thick and bushy growth even in moderate lighting conditions.

Unlike some fast-growing plants, Sampson's Pogostemon takes its time, displaying a preference for lateral branching rather than vertical height. This results in a compact and bushy appearance, making it an excellent choice for aquarists seeking a well-rounded and densely leaved plant.

Originating from the swamps and waters of southern China, this slow-growing stem plant adapts well to a variety of water conditions. Its leaves feature a distinctive undulating and serrated pattern, with reddish veins often adorning the young foliage. Resembling the native species Limnophila aromatica, Pogostemon sampsonii distinguishes itself with its more compact habit and increased branching.

While not particularly demanding, this plant does best in medium to strong lighting and benefits from CO2 supplementation. Like other Pogostemon species, it is easily propagated by cuttings. Planted as a low-growing compact bush in the middle ground, Pogostemon sampsonii can provide a delightful focal point in the aquarium.
