Ludwigia ovalis is a relatively uncommon species suitable for both beginner and more experienced aquarists. It grows much rounder leaves than other Ludwigia species, with an attractive pink to tan colouration.

Ludwigia ovalis is an easy plant to care for, and can be grown in aquariums down to 10°C. Similar to Ludwigia repens, it is a fast grower which appreciates moderate light levels, and can be planted in the background or midground. It generally grows slightly smaller in size than L. repens, with a slightly slanted upwards growth habit. The plant also demonstrates excellent ramification, creating a fuller and more lush appearance.

What sets Ludwigia ovalis apart are its distinct characteristics. The species showcases rounder and larger leaves compared to Ludwigia repens, with distinct leaf-veins. This plant looks its best under high light and with the addition of CO2 supplementation, where the round leaves take on a flowery wavy edge, resembling delicate rose petals.

This is the true Ludwigia ovalis species with alternating, rather than opposite, leaves. This is the best way to identify this species from some other Ludwigia cultivars.
