Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea,' commonly known as Gold Moneywort or Golden Creeping Jenny, is a colourful cultivar of Lysimachia nummularia with bright yellow leaves. This is most prominent under high lighting, where the stems of the plant can also take on an orange colouration. It can also tolerate lower light conditions, where it will grow with pale yellow-green leaves.

This plant is relatively uncommon in the aquarium hobby, with the the regular green Lysimachia nummularia often mistakenly sold as this cultivar. Its golden hues stand out amongst green foliage, creating a stunning visual contrast in the tank. As a versatile plant, it shares similar care requirements with the green Lysimachia nummularia and is particularly well-suited for cold water tanks.

Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea' exhibits moderately fast growth, making it an excellent choice for those looking to fill out their aquascape quickly. It is also remarkably undemanding, accommodating a wide range of water conditions, including soft to hard water, pH values of 6 to 8, and temperatures down to 4°C.

While it can thrive under low light and without CO2 injection, providing stronger lighting and CO2 supplementation will enhance its overall health and vibrancy. An ample supply of nitrate and micronutrients is recommended to promote robust, healthy leaves with intense colouration. Lysimachia nummularia serves as a good indicator plant in the aquarium, as the leaves clearly look their best when the water has sufficient nitrate (NO3) levels.
