Aponogeton undulatus, commonly known as the Undulate Leaf Aponogeton, is an interesting aquarium plant due to its unique self-propagating abilities. It is one of only three self-propagating Aponogetons, the others being the Australian native Aponogeton prolifer, and the Sri Lankan Aponogeton dassanayakei. This plant does not produce flower spikes - instead, new plantlets grow from the ends of the stalks, similar to Echinodorus species. These plantlets can be detached once their bulb has formed and they have sufficient roots, making propagation of this plant easy and straightforward.

The Undulate Leaf Aponogeton is a fast-growing plant with large, lanceolate, wavy leaves. The rectangular areas between the veins on the leaves are of varying shades of green, resulting in a unique checkered pattern. It grows best in medium light and nutrient-rich water, but can also tolerate lower lighting conditions. This plant is ideal for taller aquariums with good water flow, as it can grow up to 50cm in length.

In terms of care, this plant is relatively undemanding and can adapt to a wide range of water parameters. However, it does require occasional pruning of old leaves to prevent overcrowding and to promote healthy growth. Additionally, regular fertilisation and carbon dioxide injection can help to enhance the plant's growth and colouration.
