Ludwigia senegalensis, also known as Ludwigia sp. 'Guinea', is an uncommon, attractive aquatic plant that will add a pop of orange-red colour to the aquarium. This species features unique veined leaves that are sure to catch the eye of any aquarium enthusiast. It is a relatively small stem plant compared to other Ludwigia species, making it a great choice for smaller tanks.

To ensure optimal growth and colouration, Ludwigia senegalensis requires good lighting and regular fertilisation. Under medium light, the leaves will display more green with red edges, while under high light, most of the leaf will turn red. This species is moderately demanding and not recommended for beginners, but experienced aquarists will appreciate its unique and striking appearance.

Ludwigia senegalensis prefers to be grown in water with a pH range of 4-7 and a carbonate hardness of 0-7°dKH, and can tolerate temperatures between 12-30°C. It can be propagated through stem cuttings and should be planted in nutrient-rich substrate to encourage healthy growth. It is a moderately slow grower that appreciates supplemental CO2 - however it will still grow without it, just at a slower rate.

While this species may be more challenging than some other species to care for, the end result is well worth the effort. Its striking colouration and veined, net-like leaf patterns make it a great addition to any high-tech aquascape. With proper care, Ludwigia senegalensis will thrive and look great in the midground of your aquarium.
