Murdannia engelsii is a rare and eye-catching stem plant that originates from South America. Its long, translucent red leaves are highly undulate under high light, giving them a very unique appearance.

This plant has a mostly upright growth habit and readily branches, allowing for easy propagation by cuttings. Under favourable conditions, this species can grow quite fast, making it an ideal choice for aquarists looking for a quick-growing plant to fill out their tank.

Murdannia engelsii is moderately demanding, requiring good lighting and water nutrients. CO2 addition is also recommended for healthy growth. However, with the right conditions, this plant can thrive and reward you with its striking beauty.

In good conditions, this plant produces long, colourful leaves which are slightly translucent with a wavy edge. Depending on lighting, these leaves can have shades of red, pink, brown, orange and green. The lateral veins of the leaves are of a slightly darker colour, which gives the leaf a marbled look. The alternate leaves can grow up to a length of 9 cm and a width of 1.2 cm. The stems are relatively thick, around 2.5 mm, and rather rigid, with a light green to reddish colour. Their overhanging growth habit, along with moderate branching and ramification, can add depth and dimension to your aquascape.

Murdannia engelsii is a unique and captivating plant that is sure to make a statement in your aquarium. With proper care, it can be a fast-growing and attractive addition to your aquascape.
