Myriophyllum aquaticum 'Green' is a fluffy-looking, aquatic stem plant with low care requirements. It is quite similar to Myriophyllum aquaticum 'Normalform', but the shoot width is narrower (both in its underwater and emersed form). Compared to 'Normalform', the leaves of this form stay a medium to dark green. Its growth-rate is also slightly slower.

This species is often mistakenly sold as the native Myriophyllum simulans in the hobby, but differs in a number of ways - Myriophyllum simulans has finer and more open leaflets, while Myriophyllum aquaticum 'Green' has coarser leaflets and and a denser appearance. The easiest way to tell however, is in the out of water form, where M. simulans leaves lose their pinnate structure while M. aquaticum still grows with its classic parrot-feather look. This plant is also sometimes known as Myriophyllum 'elatinoides'.

In the aquarium it grows fluffy, needle-like green leaves under low and medium light, and may develop yellow fringes under very high light. It can grow quickly and is an easy-to-grow choice for planted aquariums and outdoor water gardens. As it is a fast grower, this plant can help to improve water quality by absorbing excess nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates, from the water column. This can help to prevent algae growth and keep the water clear.

When it comes to care, Myriophyllum aquaticum 'Green' is relatively low maintenance. It prefers medium-high light and a nutrient-rich substrate, but can also tolerate low light conditions. CO2 injection can help to promote longer leaves and denser growth.

It's important to note that Parrot's Feather can be an invasive species in some areas, so ensure your pond is contained and remember to never introduce anything into natural waterways.
