The classification of this plant, along with almost all other 'Echinodorus' grown in the aquarium hobby, has recently been revised - these plants now belong to the new 'Aquarius' genus.

Aquarius Lothario, commonly known as Echinodorus Lothario, is an attractive and bushy, medium-sized Aquarius cultivar. With its wide heart-shaped leaves, this plant looks great as a centerpiece in the aquascape. Growing to a height of 25-30 cm, it works best in medium to large aquariums.

The leaves of Aquarius Lothario are broadly lanceolate in shape, with a beautiful reddish-brown colouration. Depending on the lighting conditions, the leaves can display a range of captivating hues. Under high-intensity light, the newest leaves take on a striking coppery-red colour, gradually transitioning to a bronze-green as they age. In lower light settings, the newer leaves grow with an orange colouration.

The leaves of Aquarius Lothario also have an intricate network of darker-coloured veins. Although slightly less prominent than in other cultivars like 'Devil's Eye', these veins contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the plant. As the leaves mature, they also develop wavy edges.

Like all Aquarius plants, the Lothario Sword Plant is a heavy root feeder, and it will benefit from a nutrient-rich substrate such as aqua soil or a specialized planted tank substrate. Its subtle reddish-brown foliage and easy care requirements make it an excellent choice for both novice and experienced hobbyists looking to add a pop of colour to their aquascape.
