Fissidens berteroi, the Mt Glorious Fissidens Moss, is a rare native Australian aquatic moss that has large 2-3cm feather-like stems. This is one of the largest Fissidens mosses, and has a distinctive appearance with its widely spaced leaf-like structures called phyllids.

Mt Glorious Fissidens Moss has frond-like stems that grow upright, all rooted by rhizoids at the base. These are softer and more flexible than those of other Fissidens species, as well as longer. Like other Fissidens mosses, this moss does not grow out continously like Java Moss, and instead has more of a low-growing, carpeting habit. The deep green color and fine texture of this moss make it an excellent choice for creating a natural, forest-like aesthetic in an aquarium. Its compact growth habit makes it ideal for nano tanks, aquascaping projects, and as a foreground plant.

This moss thrives best in moderate to high lighting conditions, but it can also adapt to low light. While CO2 supplementation is not strictly necessary, it can significantly enhance the growth speed of this slow growing plant. Mt Glorious Fissidens Moss is cold tolerant and will grow in waters with temperatures ranging from 3°C to 28°C, making it suitable for a variety of aquarium setups.

One of the key features of Fissidens berteroi is its ability to attach to hardscape elements such as driftwood, rocks, and other surfaces. This can be achieved by using fine fishing line, thread, or aquarium-safe glue to secure the moss in place until it anchors itself with its rhizoids. Over time, it will spread to form a lawn-like surface on the hardscape.
