Anubias 'Oval Leaf', the Oval Leaf Anubias or Anubias 'Jenny', is a hardy aquatic plant with distinctive round to oval shaped leaves, which add a unique aesthetic to any aquarium setup. Like other members of the Anubias genus, this species is hardy and adaptable to almost any aquarium conditions.

The leaves of Anubias 'Oval Leaf' are dark green, robust, and can grow to about 5-10 cm in length, making them an excellent choice for smaller aquariums. These tough, leathery leaves are resistant to herbivory, making the plant suitable for tanks with a variety of fish and snail species.

Anubias 'Oval Leaf' is a hybrid of Anubias barteri var. 'Nana' and Anubias barteri var. 'Coffeefolia'. This cultivar combines the best traits of its parent plants, with both small and ridged leaves, resulting in a hardy and attractive aquatic plant. Like all Anubias, this species adapts easily to a wide range of water conditions. It can thrive in both soft and hard water, varying pH levels, and temperatures between 12-32°C. It is a fantastic low light aquarium plant but can also grow in aquariums with higher light. CO2 injection is not necessary for this plant, although it can enhance growth and overall health.

When planting Anubias 'Oval Leaf' in an aquarium, it is essential to avoid burying the rhizome in the substrate, as this can lead to rot. Instead, the plant should be attached to hardscape elements like rocks or driftwood. Over time, the roots will secure the plant to the chosen surface. This plant can also grow out of the substrate if only the roots and not the rhizome are buried.

This versatile plant is ideal for a variety of aquascaping styles, from densely planted tanks to minimalist setups where its unique leaf shape can be showcased. Its slow growth rate also means it requires minimal maintenance and so makes a reliable and attractive addition to any freshwater aquarium.
